Fabrication Basic

Objective: Learn the foundational hand tools, basic power tools, and shop organization skills required to work safely in the Panther Project shop.

Welcome to the Team 2064 machine shop! Before you can build a 125-pound competition robot, you need to prove you have mastered the absolute basics.

๐ŸŸข What to Expect: Level 1 (General Shop) Level 1 is all about the fundamentals. You will learn how to navigate the workspace, keep it organized, and safely use the hand tools that put the robot together.

  • ๐Ÿงน Workspace Organization: Learning the closet management system, battery care, and how to keep the shop clean.
  • ๐Ÿ”ฉ Fasteners: Identifying the specific bolts, nuts, and rivets used on our robots so you use the right hardware for the job.
  • ๐Ÿ”ง Hand Tools Overview: Proper use of measuring tools, wrenches, screwdrivers, Allen keys, and basic mechanical assembly techniques.
  • โšก Wiring & Crimping: Stripping wires and creating secure electrical connections using our standard crimpers.
  • ๐Ÿ“ Skill Check - Level 1: A required assessment to prove you know your hand tools before moving to power tools.

๐ŸŸก What to Expect: Level 2 (Power Tools & Basics) Once you pass Level 1, you will move up to basic powered equipment and electronics fabrication.

  • ๐Ÿ”‹ Basic Power Tools: Learning to safely operate cordless drills and impact drivers without stripping screw heads.
  • ๐Ÿ”Œ Soldering: Mastering the techniques for basic FRC electronics soldering to make permanent, secure electrical connections.
  • ๐Ÿ“ Skill Check - Level 2: Your final Phase 1 fabrication assessment.

โœ… How to Advance To complete this module, you must work through each lesson in order, read the documentation, and physically demonstrate your skills to the Fabrication Lead or a Mentor.

Once you pass Level 2, you will officially be cleared to use these tools on the competition robot, and you will unlock the ability to pursue Level 3 and 4 machinery in the Phase 2 Specialization Pathways!
