1.1.1 - Intro to FIRST
Section titled “1.1.1 - Intro to FIRST”Objective: Understand the mission of FIRST, the structure of the Robotics Competition, and the core values that drive Team 2064.
🚀 The Culture of FIRST
Section titled “🚀 The Culture of FIRST”FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is more than a robotics organization; it is a global community designed to build people, not just machines. In FRC, the “culture” is defined by how we interact with our peers and our rivals.
The FRC Experience
Section titled “The FRC Experience”The FIRST Robotics Competition is designed to simulate a real-world engineering firm. Under strict rules and limited resources, Team 2064 must:
- Practice Gracious Professionalism: Competing at the highest level while treating everyone with respect and kindness.
- Engage in Coopertition: Helping your opponents even when you want to beat them on the field.
- Build a Professional Brand: Operating the “Panther Project” as a professional entity through fundraising, community outreach, and technical excellence.
✅ Module Deliverable: Culture & Strategy Analysis
Section titled “✅ Module Deliverable: Culture & Strategy Analysis”To show you understand how Team 2064 fits into the broader FIRST ecosystem, you will complete a Culture & Strategy Analysis via our digital portal.
🚦 Step 1: Research
Section titled “🚦 Step 1: Research”Visit the official FIRST Robotics Competition page and review the information on FIRST and how community impact are discussed.
🛠️ Step 2: Analysis Activity
Section titled “🛠️ Step 2: Analysis Activity”Complete the analysis questionnaire at the link below. You will be asked to answer these three culture-focused questions:
- Defining the Mission: How does FRC relate to a real-world problem or industry, and why does FIRST choose to frame a “game” around a professional challenge?
- Coopertition in Action: Describe a scenario during a 3-day competition where Team 2064 might need to help a rival team. How does this benefit the “Panther Project” in the long run?
- The Professional Standard: Beyond building a robot, list two non-technical roles (e.g., imagery, scouting, business) that are essential to a team’s success in FRC culture.
